DAY 01: Travelling north from Quito you reach Calderon, famous for its hand-made bread-dough figures, continuing down the road you make a stop in Cayambe for biscuits and cheese, then you arrive to the Awakening Valley, home to the Otavalo Indians, where you will have time to explore the famous Otavalo Indian market, with its wonderful textiles, naif paintings, ceramics, jewelry, tapestries and much more at bargain prices. Visit the village of Peguche where wool tapestries are made, San Antonio de Ibarra, a center known for its woodcarvings. Accommodation in a typical hacienda or country inn. DAY 02: Drive up to Cuicocha lake, hike around this flooded volcanic crater with its twin islets, here you will observe a particular species of orchids that grow at this altitude (3.220 m. / 10.562 ft.). Later on visit Cotacachi, a leather goods center, famous for its handmade designs; here you can buy leather clothing direct from local designers at low prices. Move on to Iluman, a town of witch doctors and family-run hat workshops, return to Quito.
