DAY 01 USA/RIO DE JANEIRO: Depart on your overnight flight to Brazil. Dinner and breakfast served on board.
DAY 02 RIO DE JANEIRO: Arrive RIO DE JANEIRO this morning. Meet and transferred to selected hotel for a three night stay. Afternoon free, with optional tours available to select from. Tonight features dinner at "Casa de Feijoada" and a trip to downtown Rio to visit an old-fashioned "Gafieria" or dance hall, where "Cariocas" go to dance to the sounds of Brazilian Big Band. (B,D)
DAY 03 RIO DEJANEIRO: Morning trip to Sugar Loaf Mountain, Rio’s famous peak set at the mouth of Guanabara Bay, for a dramatic view of Rio de Janeiro. Proceed to a tour of the "Sambadrome" where the famed Carnival Parade takes place, for a lively discussion of Carnival folklore and culture. As a highlight we stop at "barracao" or samba workshop where the floats and costumes for the great parade are crafted (During Mar-Oct, this tour will be replaced by a Walking Tour of Old Rio) . Balance of day free. Optional evening excursion, in season, to an authentic "Escola de Samba" (samba school) to join the locals in song and dance. (B)
DAY 04 RIO DE JANEIRO: Free day to relax, stroll the beaches, optional tours. (B)
DAY 05 RIO DE JANEIRO/ SALVADOR: Early morning transfer to airport for flight to Brazil’s sultry northeast coast. Arrive SALVADOR DA BAHIA, one of the world’s most exotic cities early afternoon. Transfer to selected hotel and check-in for a 3 night stay. This evening features an exciting visit to the "Pelourinho" where many of Bahia’s "Afro-Blocos" will be playing. Join in and experience the magic that is Bahia and its music. (B)
DAY 06 SALVADOR: Morning walking tour of the Old City includes visits to key museums, squares and churches. Explore the exotic back streets of "the most African city in the Western Hemisphere" and learn how the cultures (and bloodlines) of Europe, America and Africa first mingled here to create the Brazilian identity. Afternoon and evening free. (B)
DAY 07 SALVADOR: Full day schooner cruise through the Islands of All Saints Bay. Enjoy a delightful day of beachcombing, sunning and swimming. A highlight is a stop for lunch at the gracious "Quinta Pitanga" estate on Itaparica Island. Evening free. (B, L)
DAY 08 SALVADOR/ MANAUS/ AMAZON LODGE: Morning transfer to the airport. Arrive MANAUS early this afternoon and transfer to the harbour to embark on a series of boats and vans for the 3 1/2 hour journey to the AMAZON LODGE. The boat will pass through the " Meeting of the Waters", of the Rio Solimoes and Rio Negro. The Amazon Lodge is the most authentic and remote of the Brazilian lodges. This 3 night adventure includes all meals (except beverages),
transfers and activities. (B,L,D)
DAY 09-10 AMAZON LODGE: These days are spent exploring the jungle by canoe, trekking into the rainforest, spotting wildlife, learning about the foliage and meeting the local river inhabitants. It is truly an unforgettable first hand experience in the world’s greatest rainforest. (B,L,D)
DAY 11 AMAZON LODGE / MANAUS: Return to Manaus mid-day. Enjoy a tour of Manaus, including the river market and famed Opera House. Check-in to the TROPICAL HOTEL to rest this evening.
DAY 12 MANAUS/USA: Transfer via the hotel shuttle early this morning for your flight to Miami and connection(s) home (B).
