DAY 1 USA/RIO DE JANEIRO: Depart on your overnight flight to Rio de Janeiro. Dinner and breakfast served on board.
DAY 02 RIO DE JANEIRO: Early morning arrival in RIO with meeting and transfer to your selected hotel for a 3 night stay. Balance of day at leisure. In the evening our "Rio By Night" starts with a welcome dinner at typical “Churrasqueria” (Brazilian Steak House), later followed by a show of Brazilian music and folklore. (B,D)
DAY 3 RIO DE JANEIRO: This morning starts with a tour of Rio´s fabled Sugar Loaf Mountain, set at the mouth of Guanabara Bay and reached via a series of cable car trips. After admiring the breathtaking view, you will proceed to downtown Rio for a fascinating "Secrets of Old Rio" walking tour. Learn about the historical, cultural and artistic traditions that make Rio special. This is a unique, offbeat look at a remarkable city. Balance of the day is at leisure. B
DAY 4 RIO DE JANEIRO: Start the day with a tour to Corcovado, Rio´s most dramatic mountaintop vista, and the imposing Christ statue seated atop. Stop en route to visit the gracious Largo de Boticario, a beautifully preserved neighborhood of colonial architecture. In the afternoon depart to the Royal city of PETROPOLIS, the Emperor´s summer residence set in the mountains outside Rio. This alpine-like village is home to many interesting buildings of the imperial era.(B)
DAY 5 RIO DE JANEIRO/ BELO HORIZONTE: Morning transfer to the airport. Arrive at BELO HORIZONTE airport by noon with meet and transfer to the 5-star OTHON PALACE HOTEL for a two night stay. "Belo" is the third largest city in Brazil, and it is a planned city, designed in a star pattern after Washington, DC. Enjoy a city tour during the afternoon. Evening free.(B)
DAY 6 BELO HORIZONTE / MINA GERAIS: Our full day excursion starts with a scenic drive through the mountain terrain of Minas Gerais state, learning about the immense mineral wealth that came from this area during colonial times. Your destination is Ouro Preto ("Black Gold"), a perfectly preserved Baroque village nestled in the mountains. Once the richest cities in the hemisphere, this town will enchant you as you spend the balance of the day being guided through its streets, museums and squares. Late afternoon return to the hotel. DAY 7 BELO HORIZONTE/ SALVADOR (BAHIA): Morning transfer to the airport for your flight to the beautiful Brazilian coast. Arrive mid-day in SALVADOR DA BAHIA, Brazil´s colonial capital, and transfer to the 5-star OTHON HOTEL for a three night stay. The afternoon is free for relaxation and enjoyment of the hotel facilities. In the evening we attend a welcome dinner of Bahian specialties at Solar do Unhao, a beautifully preserved old state house on the bay´s edge that once served as a loading station for slaves. Afterwards, a wonderful show of bahian music and dance is presented.(B,D)
DAY 8 SALVADOR: Begin with a morning walking tour of the Old City, known as the Pelourinho area. This recently restored district features the largest concentration of preserved Baroque-period architecture in the New World. It is absolutely fascinating and your guide will reveal these treasures to you as he leads you through the cobblestone streets. The afternoon and evening are free. You may try dinner at Casa da Gamboa or other typical restaurants. (B)
DAY 9 SALVADOR: Full day excursion to the delightful colonial town of CACHOEIRA. Another example of colonial architecture. This town is also note-worthy as the home of the sisterhood of the Boa Morte ("Good Death"), an ancient African sorority connected to the Candomble religion. We will visit them as well as other people and places of interest in the Bahian countryside. (B,L)
DAY 10 SALVADOR/ USA: Last day in Bahia is free for optional sightseeing tours or to explore on your own this wonderful city. Afternoon transfer to the airport for your flight home, arriving early the following morning. (B)
