| Explore Brazil’s wilderness & wildlife, plus all the excitement of Rio: The Amazon by river cruise aboard the M/Y AMAZON CLIPPER, The Pantanal, & Iguassu Falls (Optional Rio De Janeiro).  Departs: Mondays
 Day 1 Monday USA/ MANAUS: Depart on your overnight flight to Manaus. Dinner and breakfast served on board. Day 2 Tuesday MANAUS (THE AMAZON): Morning arrival in MANAUS and transfer by hotel shuttle to the beautiful 5-Star TROPICAL HOTEL. Balance of day at leisure for resting, relaxing poolside, strolling the expansive grounds and acclimating to the AMAZON. (B) Day 3 Wednesday MANAUS/ THE AMAZON CLIPPER: Morning tour of Manaus, a remarkable city built deep in the Amazon Basin by the 19th century Rubber Barons. Visit the river market, Indian Museum and the fabled Opera House, where Caruso sang and Isadora Duncan danced. In the afternoon you will board The AMAZON CLIPPER, a regional-style Amazon riverboat, to begin your four day /three night journey through the Amazon Basin and up to the Anivilhanas Archipelago. Ploying the waters of the Rio Negro on this comfortable and authentic vessel, you will explore the jungle, view the diverse flora and fauna and meet the local inhabitants of the river. Leave the Hotel Tropical pier at 02:30 pm. Presentation on board of the staff, route and facilities. Navigation to the Ariau river (tributary of Rio Negro). Canoe trip shortly before sunset, returning after dark, with the possibility of observing nocturnal animals and perceiving the change in the forest as night falls. Dinner. Navigation to Açu-Creck or nearby tributaries. (B,D) Day 4 Thursday THE AMAZON CLIPPER: Breakfast. Walk in the forest with commentaries by specialists. Observation of flora. Visit a "Caboclo" family. Change to see the local way of life, preparation of manioc flour (the staple foodstuff of the Amazon), the health and education situation of children, etc. Lunch. Navigation through the Anavilhanas Archipelago. Visit to the small, isolated town of Novo Airo with opportunity to see local boat building sawmills, markets, sometimes the commerce of palm-fiber and ornamental fish and other activities. Navigation. Dinner. Night trip to see Caymans and possibly frogs, sloth, snakes and other species, depending on the season. (B,L,D) Day 5 Friday: THE AMAZON CLIPPER: Breakfast. Navigation to Praia Grande or other white sand beach. If conditions permit, swimming and observation of vegetation of sandy areas. Canoes trip in Lake Acajatuba or adjacent lake domains to see typical flora (rubber trees, Brazil nuts and useful palm trees of various types). Fishing for piranhas. Lunch. Depending on water level and wind: stop at the Paricatuba community to see old, abandoned rubber boom buildings, now overgrown with strangler fig trees or canoe trip in the Jacareubal area. Dinner. Navigation. (B,L,D) Day 6 Saturday THE AMAZON CLIPPER/ MANAUS/ CAMPO GRANDE (PANTANAL): Breakfast. Visit Lake Januari. Canoe trip at sunrise for bird watching. Breakfast. Navigation to the "meeting of the waters". Return to the Hotel Tropical pier, with fine views of Manaus waterfront buildings, activities and commerce. Arrival at 11:30 am. Transfer by shuttle to the airport for your flight to CAMPO GRANDE, the southern gateway to the vast PANTANAL wilderness. Meet and transfer to a standard hotel for overnight (B,D) Days 7- 10 Sunday-Wednesday CAMPO GRANDE/ REFUGIO ECOLOGICO CAIMAN: Depart for a 4 hour transfer overland journey to the REFUGIO ECOLOGICO CAIMAN, offering four “Pousadas” (lodges) and arguably the finest ecologically-oriented lodge in all South America. During the four night/ five day Pantanal adventure you will enjoy the many activities offered at Caiman: Hiking: Bird watching and observation of the local animals in its own habitat. Alligator's hunting (focusing) by night. Horse back riding: Crossing the land and swamps of Pantanal and enjoying the animal life and vegetation. Paddling through the waters of Pantanal. During the night: presentation of videos and slides. (B,L,D) Day 11 Thursday CAMPO GRANDE/ IGUASSU FALLS: Morning return to the airport. Arrive later today in IGUASSU FALLS, and transfer to the DAS CATARATAS HOTEL for overnight. Morning tour of the Brazilian Falls, plus a thrilling excursion through the National Park on the Macuco Safari including a white water zodiac trip under the Falls. Later, transfer to airport for your flight to Rio and immediate connection home (OR extend your trip to include a stay in Rio). Arrive USA the next morning. (B) THE CAIMAN ECOLOGICAL REFUGE The refuge is located 147 miles west of Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul State Capital, on a 131.000 acre farm. The Caiman Ecological Complex includes four retreats; The Caiman Lodge and Piuva (which are close) and two additional lodges located in strategic points, Baiazinha and Cordilheira lodges which make up part of a program that allows guests to combine both.
